Opening for Radiohead will be Hungary?s Heaven Street Seven and the Belgian guitar band dEUS. The Pannon World Music Stage will also offer an excellent line-up on Saturday, to be capped with a performance by Nigeria?s Fema Kuti. On the WAN2 Stage Hadag Nachash of Israel and the Dutch hip-hop group Relax will play. The US heavy metal band Fear Factory will perform on the Hammerworld Stage.
Thursday ? day two of the festival ? attracted 46,000 visitors. About 25,000 people watched Jovanotti perform on the Main Stage, while 12,000 danced to Goran Bregovic on the World Music Stage.
A suspected terrorist plot uncovered in the UK on Wednesday also had repercussions on the island. With the UK?s most important airports shut down, the bands Coldcut and Gomez were unable to fly to Hungary and will not perform on Friday as planned. Because of the cancellations, Guruás Jazzmatazz will start playing on the Main Stage at 17:30, an hour later than planned, and the programme will also be pushed back on the WAN2 Stage. Coldcut?s Jon More expressed his regret that the duo would be unable to play at this year?s Sziget Festival, but promised to play the festival some time in the future.
In addition to the cancellations, the slowly rising water level along the Danube has caused some problems, but the festival has continued uninterrupted to entertain visitors with more than 200 events a day.
The festival?s organisers remind festival-goers that when they aren?t at a concert, they can visit one of the island?s many information booths ? one is even offering information on the Budapest Technical University?s MBA programme ? or take a five-minute dip in the island?s swimming pool.
