The renovation, which took more than one year, was funded with a EUR 200,000 grant from the European Union's Interreg programme, which supports cross-border projects.
Each year, tens of thousands of Hungarians visit the crypt to pay their respects.
Rákóczi died in Turkey, where he was exiled for the last 18 years of his life. His remains were returned to Hungary with great pomp in 1906.
