In addition to theatre performances, the Bárka Festival, which is to become an annual event, will include exhibitions, film screenings and roundtable discussions, Bárka Theatre director Róbert Alföldi said on Thursday.
Alföldi said Bárka has organised several festivals in the past, but this one will be different. Uncompromising in every respect, it will be a shorter, but more eventful festival, featuring outstanding performances by the some of Europe?s most renowned troupes.
Thanks to a bigger budget, the Bárka will be able to invite more important guests to perform in future, Alföldi said. The upcoming festival and the future of Bárka will be dedicated to openness, diversity and creative freedom. Nobody will be forced to follow the latest trends, he said.
Artistic director László Bérczes said the festival will start with the Maladype Theatre?s performance of ?Acropolis?. The day after the performance, the audience will have the opportunity to meet the troupe for a question-and-answer session. The New Riga Theatre will present ?Sonja? and ?The Ice? on the third and fourth days. The Sign Theatre will perform on November 10. A concert and a question-and-answer session will take place on the same day. The Boguslawski Theatre will bring their production of ?Woyzeck? to the festival, and the event will conclude with the Bárka Theatre?s performance of Hamlet, directed by Tim Carroll.
