English

The documentation was completed between October 2008 and December 2011 with the support of the European Regional Development Fund, said Cultural Heritage Protection Office (KÖH) chief Judit Tamási. Of the 161 research sites, 121 were included in the documentation, and two more in Slovakia can be added by special nomination, she added.

National Resources Minister Miklós Réthelyi said the frontier programme was a flagship project for the European Union?s Danube Strategy.

KÖH deputy head and Ripa Pannonica project leader Tamás Fejérdy said some 4,600 structures could be found at the 121 sites in the documentation, mostly the remains of fortifications, watchtowers and Roman roads. Perhaps the most notable among these is the Lussonium fortifications in Paks-Duanömlőd, he added.

At least one-third of the sites are expected to be presented as part of a Ripa Pannonica ?trail? with a unified profile.
