During the ten-month festival, several renowned Hungarian Roma artists will give performances in New York and in Washington.
Roma artists are Hungary's "ambassadors" around the world, said Erno Kallai. By presenting their culture in world-class performances they build bridges between countries and continents, he added.
Europe and Hungary need properly trained young Roma, for which broad social support is a pre-requisite, he said. Minority education is therefore the most important focus of the ombudsman's office this year, he said.
Kallai earlier attended the opening of a exhibition on the Hungarian Roma Holocaust at the Hungarian consulate in New York.
