In spite of the fact that Rádió C has put together programmes which appeal to both Roma and non-Roma alike, it has been difficult to make ends meet most of the time. Rádió C?s staff has not been paid since August, said Fátyol.
The broadcaster?s operators are in talks ?at the government level? on obtaining state money for Rádió C, he said.
One possible solution for the station would be for it to be taken over by a government organ, such as the Hungarian Foundation for Gypsies. ?Then the station could become an independent state broadcaster, such as Magyar Rádió,? Fátyol said.
He added that when the station?s broadcasting license is extended in 2008, Rádió C should aspire to become a national broadcaster. Currently the station can only be heard in the capital and its suburbs.
József Ignácz, Rádió C?s programme director, said that under the present circumstances ? with just two reporters and outdated technology ? it was impossible to make quality programmes.
