Romanian Cultural Institute Marks Anniversaries in 2009

The Hungarian Institute in Bucharest 

The institute will open an exhibition of work by Mihai Olteanun, the "painter of the revolution", on February 24.

 
The hundredth anniversary of the birth of the Romanian playwright Eugene Ionesco will also be celebrated this year with performances of five short plays with the participation of the Szeged National Theatre.
 
A concert series, dubbed Jazz Train and featuring Romanian, Slovakian and Hungarian musicians, will start on February 27 at the Hungarian Museum of Trade and Tourism. The Hungarian jazz guitarist István Gyárfás will be the "engine driver" for the series. The Jazz Train will travel to several cities in Hungary during the summer.

The Romanian rock band AB4 will be in the spotlight on the A38 ship on March 1. The group will share the stage with Hungary's Gonzo and Pauly Pilot.

The Sibiu National Theatre will perform Franz Wedekind's Lulu, directed by Silviu Purcarete, as part of the programme for this year's Budapest Spring Festival. Also on the festival programme are exhibitions by the Romanian glass artist Ioan Nemtoi and the sculptor Péter Jecza.
 
Romania will be the guest of honour at the 16th Budapest International Book Festival, which kicks off on April 23. Thirty Romanian writers whose works have been published in Hungarian will participate.
