The broadcast contains news and reports affecting the local ethnic Hungarian community. About 6,000 ethnic Hungarians live in Sighetu Marmaţiei, which lies on the Tisza.
?This is Radio Sighetu Marmaţiei? said editor and host Brigitta Zahoránszki in Hungarian for the first time on Thursday. The radio journalist told the Cluj daily Krónika that thematic programmes would be prepared, including sections on health, legal advice, environmental protection, and reports on the Klára Leöwey Secondary School.
The new Hungarian broadcast from Sighetu Marmaţiei has been made possible as a result of a change in the programme structure from this autumn. In addition to the daily 20-minute Hungarian broadcast, the radio station in Sighetu Marmaţiei will also play 20 minutes of Hungarian folk music every Monday and Thursday.
