Russia's Ulitskaya main guest at Budapest Int'l book festival

The four-day festival, Hungary's most prestigious literary event, will be opened by Parliamentary Speaker Katalin Szili at the Millenaris Park, said Peter Zentai. After the opening Booker Prize winning Ulitskaya will meet visitors and receive the Budapest Award from Mayor Gabor Demszky.

Romania will present its literature on a 100 sqm stand hosting 30 programmes. The festival will present authors from another 22 countries including Sweden's Sven Nordqvist, Austria's Martin Pollack and Hungarian-born US film legend Tony Curtis, who will present his American Prince - A Memoir.
 
Hungarian news agency MTI will have its own stand offering several of its volumes including the Kor-Kepek series documenting modern Hungarian history and the "Who Is Who" year book.
 
The event will offer 50,000 volumes and 500 programmes. The Budapest festival is modelled on the prestigious Frankfurt Fair and is organised each year to coincide with World Book and Copyright Day on April 23.
