The Hungarian cultural institutes in Berlin, Bratislava, Brussels, London and Paris have invited applications for bands to perform. The institutes will assist those selected with travel and accommodation, and they will promote their performances.

The Hungarian Cultural Institute of Paris called the same invitation for last year's World Music Day and it attracted applications from 127 bands, says director András Derdák. Napra, Zuboly and Live Act were selected to play in Paris in 2007. In 2006, Hungary was represented at the festival by Róbert Lakatos and the Rév, as well as Mitzura.

About ten of the bands selected to perform this year will play at Budapest's Gödör Club over two days at the end of May.

F?te de la Musique first took place in France in 1982 and has since spread to many other countries in Europe and around the world. The festival's aim is to make music accessible to all by organising a wide variety of free concerts.
