The addition, to open in June, will show the traditions of the Palóc region of northeast Hungary.
The construction of the addition started in the autumn of 2008 as part of the Skanzen Heritage Programme, said museum director Miklós Cseri. As part of the programme, a railway was built at the park that has so far carried almost 86,000 passengers, he added.
Visitor numbers at the Skanzen have grown by about 10,000 since last year, Cseri said.
Zsuzsanna Batári Nagy, who is in charge of the new unit at the museum, said it was no easy task to recreate the region?s folk culture in all of its authenticity.
The aim of the addition, as well as of the entire Skanzen, is not just to provide a showcase but to re-establish values in the interest of rural development, Cseri said. ?We?re not robbing the countryside, but protecting it,? he added.
