The thirty-year-old Slayer, one of the authors of thrash metal, returned to Hungary ? again in top form ? after a concert in April. They pleased their relatively large fan base in Hungary with a new set list, making the show better than expected.
Slayer played the fastest numbers from their first album to the latest with few breaks, either to communicate with the audience or other band members, rather pushing the songs out as if through a meat grinder. Perhaps this was disappointing at the start, but Slayer?s high level of professionalism, their precision and their unique means of communication ? a smile from singer Tom Araya or a satisfied nod of acknowledgement from guitarist Kerry King ? brought the show close to perfection.
The band?s song Hate Worldwide, the fastest number off their latest album World Painted Blood, as well as their hit War Ensemble set the pace for the concert. The only ?pause? was perhaps the guitar solo from The Antichrist, published 28 years earlier.
The only problem with the show was the weather. Although it was hoped the lightning and thunder would only add to the effect of the show ? as it did in Budapest in 2002 ? when the electricity went out because of a lightning strike, most fans had to reconsider. But even the power outage didn?t stop the band, who continued to play ?unplugged?
Although one or two more numbers would have been good to hear, most fans who kept up with the show?s frantic pace may not have been able to stay on their feet.
