The organisers of the festivals - both in their 5th year - will invite submissions for one-minute films under the aegis "reklama na zivot," roughly translated as "advertisement for life". Filmmakers will be asked to focus on important issues in Hungarian and Slovakian relations, such as Dialogue, Change, Respect and Borders. The categories in the contest will be fiction, animation, experimental and documentary. The genres are comedy, drama, action, melodrama, musical, horror and thriller. The deadline for submissions is February 21.
The campaign aims to encourage intellectuals and artists to take a bigger role in normalising relations between the two countries.
Two Hungarian directors of the "new generation", Csaba Bollók and Géza M. Tóth, have already agreed to join the contest jury.
"As long as there was only Czechoslovakia, it seemed like we were half-brothers, but now that only Slovakia is our neighbours, we have become brothers indeed. Of course, we know that even brothers fight at times, but we also know that that is not good thing. First you must make peace and sit down at the family table," Bollók said.
