Some 20 dance ensembles and musical groups will perform at a gala evening at Budapest?s Almássy Square Recreation Centre on Saturday, November 25, the Sound of the Balkans Cultural Association said. In addition to musical events, an art exhibition, a bazaar, folk dance lessons and cooking demonstrations will be on the programme, entitled ?Balkán Expressz 2006?.

The Sound of the Balkans Festival Award will be presented to the folk group Vujicsis at the event, deputy chair of the association Gabriella Ambróczy said.

The award recognises outstanding efforts to promote the interests of ethnic minorities from the Balkans and represent their cultures in their most authentic forms. The recipient is chosen by the leaders of the association and independent experts.

Following up on last year?s success, the Sound of the Balkans photo competition will again take place this year, and twelve of the winning entries will become part of a 2007 calendar.

Balkán Expressz 2006 came to Pécs, in southwest Hungary, on November 18, and it will travel to Békéscsaba, in southeast Hungary, on November 24, before ending in Budapest on the following day.
