(MTI) - The mayor told reporters that Elvis had firmly backed Hungary's anti-Soviet revolution in 1956, and he had called on Americans to send donations to the country in a TV programme broadcast early in 1957.
Residents have until on March 15 to cast their vote for the square to be named.
The city council also plans to posthumously award honorary citizenship of Budapest for expressing his sympathy with the revolution and his efforts to spread related information in the US.
