Sting Plays Budapest - Stingphonic

English

Sting, a.k.a. Gordon Matthew Thomas Summer, performed material from his new Symphonicities album, in which he revisits past hits accompanied by orchestra. In the Hungarian capital, fans were proud to hear local orchestra Budafoki Dohnányi Zenekar provide the accompaniment.

Sting, who played a fantastic concert in Budapest last November, was in top form, sounding ? and looking ? as fit as ever, in spite of his sixty years. Although I had earlier put his overplayed ?Englishman in New York? in the same category as ?Memory? from Cats, his performance on Thursday was so natural as to put it next to ?Message in a Bottle?.

Hungary?s own Budafoki Dohnányi Zenekar shared the stage with Sting in Budapest as well as at a show in Graz on June 11. Gábor Hollerung, who directs the orchestra, said in an interview that he didn?t know exactly why the ensemble had been invited to accompany Sting, but suggested it might be because of the relative youth of its members and their familiarity with pop music.
