Summer Jewish Festival Starts With Bar Mitzvah

The festival organisers asked the saxophonist and composer László Dés to be the subject of the first part of a series that explores the oeuvres of different musicians. Dés, who said he was honoured to be chosen to start the series, will be joined by József Horváth Barcza, Ferenc Snétberger, András Dés, Nikoletta Szőke, Ági Szalóki, Péter Esterházy and Pál Závada.

 
The Hundred-member Gypsy Orchestra will play an extraordinary concert dedicated to old hits, operettas and film music by Jewish composers at the Dohány Stree synagogue on Monday.
 
On Tuesday, Mariann Falusi and Péter Kálmán will present works by George Gershwin and Leonard Bernstein at the same venue. They will be accompanied by the Honvéd choir, the Péter Sárik Trio and Mókus Edina Szirtes on violin, Zoltán Boros on viola and Endre Kertész on cello.
 
Chamber music concerts will be held at the historic synagogue in Rumbach Street. The violinist Orsolya Korcsolán will play a programme entitled Hebrew Carpaccio on Sunday, and the Swiss soprano Barbara Fuchs will give a recital on September 1, accompanied by Judit Polgár.
 
The Israeli Tafillalt Ensemble will play pieces from cycle The Floating Tower by André Hajdú on Thursday.
 
Beatrix Fodor, András Hábetler, László Szvétek and Bernadett Wiedemann will sing at an opera gala on September 5.
 
The ?king? of Hasid reggae Matisyahu Miller will appear on the stage of Syma hall on September 5.
 
The Jewish Summer Festival is taking place between August 23 and September 6.
 
Last year the Jewish Summer Festival attracted 120,000 visitors and the orgnisers expect just as many festival-goers this year.
