Sziget Festival Draws 45,000 On First Day

Among the festival?s opening acts were pop sensation Franz Ferdinand, former Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant, heavy metal band Cradle of Filth and former Sex Pistols bass player Glen Matlock.

Also appearing on Day One was Therapy?, whose bass player raved about the festival in an interview with a local paper in April.

?Sziget Festival is a brilliant event. I have never seen anything like it before. Your average festival consists of stages and back stages. But Sziget is like a town in itself. You can keep yourself busy even if there is nobody special you want to see,? Michael McKeegan told the paper.

The festival?s second day included performances by Italy?s Lorenzo Cherubini, better known as Jovanotti, who is also a returning guest to the Sziget. On the World Music Stage was Goran Bregovic?s Wedding and Funeral Band, while New York?s hard core band Sick Of It All appeared on the HammerWorld Stage.

Visitors with week passes are the rule this year, with week passes for campers sold long before the start of the event. Day passes, however, are still available.

Guides for visually impaired festival goers are among the many services available on the island. Visitors who wish to make use of the service, which is available around the clock, may call 06-70-376-53-51. The Sziget Festival programme is also available in Braille for the first time this year.
