Sziget Festival Sets Up Bigger, Better Electronica Stage

English

The Medusa programme, which replaces the one at the festival?s Cinetrip stage, will take place at a larger venue and feature a broader range of international acts. Acts on the Medusa stage will start at 14:00 and run until dawn. The special 600-square-metre octagonal space is being built by the Medence Group and will be reminiscent to a rich collection of sea life.

The line-up on the Medusa stage will include Stereotyp, considered to be the masters of dubstep, which mixes bits of reggae with dance music. Stereotyp?s recordings are sold under the Klein Records and G-Stoned labels, the same label representing DJ legends Kruder and Dorfmeister. Stereotyp will be accompanied on the Medusa stage by their German partners Al-Haca and Mr Coppa.

Other acts are Soul of Man, A. Skillz and Slyde, all of which belong to the Fingerlickin? Records label. FLC is among the most successful breakbeat labels, with 64 maxis and 13 albums in their catalog, and more than one million sales worldwide, a record for the genre. Other acts on the FLC label are Plump Djs, the Drummatic Twins, the Krafty Kuts and Lee Coombs. Some have already played in Hungary, always to great acclaim.

FLC will celebrate its eighth anniversary on the Medusa stage.

The UK?s Mangomad, a.ka. Kelman Grieg, was one of the founders of Yummi Records. He will perform on the Medusa stage from his debut album ?electrotherapy? (2004) as well as remixes and new material, accompanied by a live band.

Addictive TV have played in Hungary several times, but never with their full audiovisual show. On the Medusa stage, the act?s Daniels and Peter Toll, will show their whole package.

A member of Coldcut and a founder of the Ninja Tune label, no more must be said about Matt Black. Coldcut has formed the foundation of electronica, contributing to almost every distinct style and inventing a few of their own. Black will play live with Coldcut on the WAN2 stage before his session on the Medusa stage.

The German trance act Saafi Brothers includes Gabriel le Mar, a master of ambient, and Michael Kohlbecker. Le Mar will play a set in the Cöxpont Ambient tent on Sunday and Saafi Brothers will set the mood with a trance show at the Medusa stage on Saturday.

Markus Kienzl is a member of the Sofa Surfers, who played Hungary?s VOLT Festival a few years earlier. He recently surprised fans with an astonishing solo album and will now play the Medusa stage thanks to ProjectEast! and the Klein Records label.

Klein Records will be represented by several other DJs on the stage. In addition to Markus, Christian Candid and Simonlebon will also appear on the same day. Simonlebon is a founding member of ProjectEast!, which collects electronica artists from Eastern Europe and establishes a network in neighbouring countries. Simon will bring with him some of the finest representatives of ProjectEast!, such as Slack Hippy, Patrick Kong Live and Smacs, while 4youreye will take care of the visuals.

Pulver Records, which has signed up several Hungarian DJs, will be represented for nearly a full day on the Medusa stage. In addition to Hungarian DJs, the label?s boss, Dublex Inc, will perform, as well as Inverse Cinematics and Slope. Pulver Records is characterised by an easily accessible style, mixing Latin with live instruments and a house beat.

The Dutch Kraak & Smaak, arriving with a full band, promises to be another hit at the festival. The three-man act, formed in 2003, will soon put out their second album under the UK?s Jalapeno Records. The album will feature a bonus CD featuring remixes of tracks off their first album.
