UK ambassador to Hungary Greg Dorey said the festival could do much to combat racism and cited the success of the day-long Music Against Racism (ZARE) initiative, organised with the help of the British and American embassies.
The event, which took place immediately before the start of the Sziget Festival will take place again in the future.
"Hungary greets tens of thousands of youngsters from all parts of Europe with open arms, so people can have a great time here without any problem. There is no better example to show that Sziget plays an important role in intercultural dialogue," said Chargé d'Affaires ad interim for the U.S. embassy in Budapest Jeffrey D. Levine. "Surveys have shown that racism is more wide-spread among youngsters than grown-ups, but such a festival can show that everyone is equal."
Both the British and the U.S. embassies set up tents at the festival to provide information and assistance.
