Tchaikovsky Marathon Draws 7,000

The event - the first of its kind at MUPA - started at eleven o'clock in the morning and ended at ten in the evening. Concerts, lasting 45 minutes each, started on the hour every hour. The performances included Tchaikovsky's best known works as well as some pieces heard less often. Screenings of films of Tchaikovsky operas were also on the complimentary programme.

BFO director Tamás Körner said the idea for the event came from the Folle Journée, an annual music marathon focussing on a single composer in the French city of Nantes which regularly draws tens of thousands of people.

Next year, the BFO and MUPA want to organise a Dvorak Marathon.
