The capital?s Pompidou Centre is hosting a retrospective of Tarr?s films to coincide with the premiere. Entitled Béla Tarr the Alchemist, the retrospective will run from December 3 until January 2.
Tarr will start the series with a weekend master class. Other accompanying programmes include a roundtable talk, an exhibition of work by Gyula Pauer and the presentation of a monograph by professor Jacques Ranciére called Béla Tarr, le temps d?aprés.
Tarr wrote the screenplay for The Turin Horse with his long-time collaborator László Krasznahorkai. Ágnes Hranitzky was co-director and Mihály Víg wrote the soundtrack. Fred Kelemen was cameraman and Gábor Téni the producer. Erika Bók, János Derzsi and Mihály Kormos act in the film.
The Turin Horse, won the Jury Grand Prix Silver Bear and the Competition FIPRESCI Prize at this year?s Berlin Film Festival. It is Hungary?s submission for Best Foreign Language Film at next year?s Oscars.
Tarr will attend a preview screening of The Turin Horse at the Pompidou Centre on Tuesday.
