Organiser MASZK and independent performances association FESZ will offer festival-goers more than sixty events, including concerts, book launches and exhibitions, in addition to the theatre productions which include eight premieres.
The festival will start on Monday with the play Pass-port Segedin/Szeged - or The Devil Himself, a joint project of the Kosztolányi Dezső Theatre of Subotica, Serbia, and the MASZK Association of Szeged. The piece explores the lives of people who live near the border between Hungary and Serbia. A performance of Pass-port Subotica/Szabadka - The Demons' City, another cooperative effort by the two troupes, will take place on Tuesday.
A contest has been organised in the framework of this year?s festival to create pieces for specific venues in Szeged, such as a boathouse, an auditorium and a pub.
Among the performances that have been invited to Thealter are Actions of a Pit-bull by the Titkos Company, Vis-?-vis by Anna Réti, Stop?n?Go by the Duda Éva Company, Basse Danse by Hodworks, NőInTime by Ágens and Cserenadrág by the Táp Theatre in collaboration with the Katona József Theatre.
An exhibition by the Szeged-based artist Lia Pacsika inspired by the lyrics of singer András Lovasi will go on show in the Old Synagogue courtyard from Monday.
The synagogue, which is the central venue of the festival, is also hosting an exhibition of cartoons from the magazine Symposium.
The Kass Gallery is showing work by Ferenc Baráth who has created the Thealter festival posters since 1994.
