The festival is running on a shoestring budget of 55 million forints, thus the organisers must invite fewer foreign guests and can offer no cash prize to the competition winner, but a printed catalogue will still be published and communal events will play an important role, Horváth said.

Seven films are in competition at this year?s Titanic, among them the Serbian director Maja Milos?s Clip, which took two prizes at the Rotterdam film festival, Horváth said. The film is being shown in the framework of the international Eye on Films project, which supports first features, he added.

One film was shown as part of Eye on Films last year. This year, two are on the festival programme.

Horváth acknowledged assistance the organiers had received, calling the cooperation of Scandinavian diplomatic missions in Hungary ?exemplary?.

The Titanic is showing six films in its ?Northern Lights? section: ID:A, a Danish action movie; The Troll Hunter from Norway; Those Who Kill ? Shadow of the Past, a cinematic version of the popular Danish TV series; Undercurrent, a ?claustrophobic drama? with members of the well-known Vesturporttheatre company; Indebted, the directorial debut of Hungarian-born Márton Jelinkó, who is based in Finland; and Pure, an exploration of class and culture in contemporary Sweden.

Spain is also in the spotlight at this year?s festival. The ?Spanish Boots? section will feature five films. Catalunya Über Alles director Ramon Tremenssz and Toni Bestard, who directed The Perfect Stranger, will be guests at the festival.

The 19th Titanic will take place in the capital on April 13-21. Altogether, 57 feature films ? including seven documentaries and eight concert films ? from 29 countries as well as six shorts are on the programme.

The jury comprises the Hungarian director Ágnes Kocsis, her compatriot, the producer András Muhi, and the director of the Warsaw International Film Festival Stefan Laudyn.

Screenings will take place in the Uránia National Film Theatre, the Kinó, the Toldi arthouse cinema, the Örökmozgó Film Museum and the A38.
