"Europe can only say what its achievement so far merits if it has self-confidence and trusts in love," Szőcs said in his acceptance speech at the awards ceremony.

The European Academy Vienna was founded in 1962 to promote European integration, cooperation and education, and to support the distribution of information on the European Union. Each year the organisation grants Awards of Excellence to individuals demonstrating outstanding political and intellectual achievement in Central Europe.
