The Un Certain Regard Prize awards one of the films presented in the selection with a grant to aid its distribution in France.

?Taxidermia?, a Hungarian-Austrian-French co-production by Eurofilm, is an adaptation of the short stories of Lajos Parti Nagy and presents as its main characters three men living in three different periods of history. The film won the main award at the 37th Hungarian Film Festival, and two of its leads won awards as well: Adél Stanczel won the best female lead award and Csaba Czene the best male supporting actor award. Additionally, the film won the award for best production design, the student jury award and the Gene Moskowitz foreign film critics? award.

After the Hungarian Film Festival, Fortissimo Films, one of the world?s largest film distributors specialising in European films, bought the international distribution rights for Taxidermia, guaranteeing it an audience abroad.

Pálfi?s first feature film, ?Hukkle?, which told -- almost entirely without dialogue -- a story of poisonings in a small village, was invited to more than a hundred festivals and received dozens of awards, including the Fassbinder Award of the European Film Academy.

In the Cannes Cinéfondation lineup, which includes short and medium-length motion pictures from film schools, is Ágnes Kocsis?s ?The Virus?, a 27-minute film documenting the appearance of a different kind of virus in the life of a researcher. The film, Kocsis?s graduation project at the Budapest Film Academy, has already been featured at many international film festivals. Since making the film, Kocsis has directed a full-length feature, ?Fresh Air?, which one the best directorial debut award at the Hungarian Film Festival.

The Cannes Film Festival?s selection committee?s choices for this year?s programme were made from more than 4,000 films.
