Valley of Arts Renewed

This year's festival, the 20th will be hosted by the villages of Kapolcs, Taliándörögd, Vigántpetend, Öcs, Pula, Monostorapáti and Nagyvázsony. Last year, the villages organised programmes of their own as the financial and economic crisis weighed on Hungary.

"We're preparing a lot of new things in addition to the traditional events," said festival organiser István Márta.

The festival will bestow the title of "Woman of the Valley of Arts" for the first time this year. The inaugural recipient will be Hungary's folk and world music diva Bea Palya, who will be a guest at the festival for the full ten days.

Zoltán Rácz of the percussion ensemble Amadinda will oversee the classical and contemporary music programme of the festival.

Békéscsaba's Jókai Theatre will set up a tent on the edge of Pula with a capacity for 500 people. In addition to the Jókai Theatre, Debrecen's Csokonai Theatre, the Illyés Theatre of Berehove and the New Theatre of Budapest will perform at the venue.
