The troupe won the prize for the overall effect of visuals, music, movement and action in the piece Metamorphosis, said director Rozi Kocsis.

Vaskakas was the only troupe from Hungary at the festival. It performed Metamorphosis at three sold-out shows.

The piece, directed by Krzysztof Rau from Poland, involves a vivid world inhabited by birds, elephants, cowboys, monks and samurais created with the help of white handkerchiefs, blankets and sheets.

The Chinese audiences applauded after each figure was brought to life, Kocsis said.

The Unima World Congress and Puppetry Festival is held every four years. Budapest hosted the event in 1996.
