Kaló was born in Budapest on 16 June 1932. He started his career at the National Theatre of Szeged after finishing acting school. In 1961, he became a member of the Attila József Theatre in Budapest where he played numerous roles in classic and modern plays, as well as in musical and spoken works. He remained with the company until the end of his life. Some of his most popular roles included Professor Szilvai in the Hungarian play ?Liliomfi?, Alfieri in Arthur Miller?s ?A View from the Bridge? and Ulysses in Shakespeare?s ?Troilus and Cressida?.
He also had roles in a number of classic films, including ?Young Noszty and Mary Toth? (1960), ?The Obsessed Ones? (1961) and ?Dialogue? (1963). Kaló was a Mari Jászai Award laureate who also wrote plays for theatre and radio, including ?A Story of Our Times? (1976), ?Four at Midnight? (1976) and ?Indecent Stories? (1980).
His play ?The Outcast? was published in 1987.
