Other performers on the programme of the 15th Volt Festival, slated for July 4-7, include Anthony Rother and Massive Attack member Daddy G.

Coldcut comprises DJs Matt Black and Jonathan More. The two met at a record store in the 80s. Black, a computer programmer, was browsing for samples to use in a mix competition. Former art teacher More ended up helping him with the mix.

Coldcut released its first single Say Kids, What Time Is It? in 1987. Their remix Eric B. & Rakim Paid in Full was released by Island Records the following year. The two DJs also collaborated on the pirate radio station KissFM and ran their own show, entitled Solid Steel. The band's first big hit was People Hold On released in1988, with vocals by the still unknown singer Lisa Stansfield. In the same year, the two released the album The Only Way Is Up under the name The Plastic Population. The album quickly climbed to the top of the charts.

The Roots, from Philadelphia, are well-known for their jazz-like hip-hop style and live instrumentation. They have played the Lollapalooza tour as well as at the Montreux Jazz Festival.

Massive Attack's deep-voiced Daddy G, or Grant Marshall, will make his Hungarian debut at the Volt Festival.

Anthony Rother, the electronic music composer-performer and owner of the label Datapunk Records, will play as part of the festival's Hyperspace programme.

Earlier announced acts at this year's Volt Festival include English rave sensations The Prodigy and US alternative metal masters Korn.

Also on the programme will be the Slovenian band Laibach, whose tight military rhythms and electronic sounds have brought them a broad following since the 80s. Laibach's latest album is a collection of covers of national anthems.

Koop, one of Sweden's trendiest music exports, will play, as will the American funk band Fort Knox Five. Austria will be represented at the festival by Louie Austen, the white-suited charmer who brought the heritage of Sinatra to electro-disco, and Parov Stelar, the country's most popular DJ-producer.

A show by Touch and Go is expected to bring festival-goers to their feet, as is a performance by the German band Tube-Tech, well known for their covers of Doors songs.
