Warehouse District to Become Cultural Quarter

English

The two rows of brick warehouses will house cafes, restaurants, bookshops and an events centre with a capacity to seat more than a thousand people, said managing director of project company Porto Investment Kft Imre Márton. The buildings and the space in between are to be covered by a giant glass canopy that resembles a whale. Hence the project's name, CET, the abbreviation for Central European Time and a synonym for "whale" in Hungarian.

The project will involve the demolition of part of the old warehouses to allow better access to the site. When completed, CET will have an area of 31,000 square metres, including 12,500 square metres of building space. A terrace will overlook the Danube.

The project is expected to cost about EUR 31.5 million.
