At its session in Quebec, the Committee raised the issue of "large-scale demolition of architectural values of the townscape" and "replacing buildings with contemporary structures of questionable value significantly reducing the district's importance," the Hungarian national heritage authority told MTI.

The Committee expects actual measures by the government to preserve the area and has called on the concerned Hungarian authorities to individually review demolition permits already issued.

The 32nd session of the World Heritage Committee opened on July 2nd to inscribe new sites on UNESCO's World Heritage list.
