Pécs Mayor Zsolt Páva met with Deputy Mayor of Zagreb Jelena Pavicic Vukicevic, and cultural director of the Pécs2010 programme Tamás Szalay spoke about events planned for next year as well as the importance of Pécs's cooperation with Hungary's neighbours to the southeast.
Hungarian publishers Jelenkor and Croatian publishing house Matica hrvatska presented new books. There were also performances by Rita Góbi and her dance troupe as well as Eszter Takáts and the GumiZsuzsi.
Pécs, which lies near Hungary's border with Croatia, has long maintained links with Croatian partners in a number of areas. In the run-up to the Pécs2010 programme, the city has organised many cross-border programmes: 35 in 2008 alone, supported with HUF 120 million in funding.
City officials from Pécs and Zagreb signed a Charter for Friendship and Cooperation in October 2008.
