Zsuzsanna Renner New Director of Museum of Applied Arts

English

Renner is currently the director of the Ferenc Hopp Museum of Oriental Art. She will take up her new post on December 1.

Hiller made his decision on Monday afternoon after approving the recommendation of a committee of professionals that assessed the applications for the post. Renner said in her application that her main objective would be to re-interpret the museum's mission and renew its activities for public education.

She said one important target was to establish links with contemporary designers, workshops and professional organisations. The newly appointed director said she wanted the Museum of Applied Arts to become an important base for research in applied arts, design and art history.

Renner started working as a museologist at the Ferenc Hopp Museum of Oriental Arts in 1990. She was appointed chief museologist in 1994 and museum director in 2003.

Renner was one of five applicants for the position.

Renner will replace Ferenc Pálfi, who was appointed by Hiller for a temporary period until a new director could be found. Former director Imre Takács was dismissed effective August 31 after a supervisory audit carried out at the museum.
