The 40 performances in the first leg of the tour are 95 percent sold out, which means that at least 70,000 people will see the musical in this period, theatre press chief Rita Lencsó said.

The theatre won the rights to perform the production 300 times in three years in the German-speaking areas of Europe in large part because of the costumes, which were designed in partnership with Herend, one of Hungary?s most famous porcelain makers, chief director Miklós Gábor Kerényi said earlier.

Philippe Gamba, theatre director of Disney International which holds the copyrights to the musical, said the performance of the Hungarian soloists, dancers and musicians was ?world class? after seeing the show in Dresden.

?This extraordinary and energetic production would pass the test on any big-city stage,? he added.

György Lőrinczy, who is in charge of managing guest performances, said that never before had a Hungarian troupe played this many performances at renowned music theatres in Germany.

?It is an honour to appear at Semperoper and the National Theatre of Mannheim, and later in the programme of the Alte Oper in Frankfurt and Vienna?s Stadthalle. And we are especially pleased that we will also get the chance to play The Gipsy Princess on top of this musical at the Festspielhaus in Baden-Baden this autumn,? he said.

The Budapest Operetta Theatre is performing the musical by Tim Rice, Alan Menken and Howard Ashman with three casts. In addition to such experienced actors and singers as Lilla Polyák, Zsolt Homonnay, Mara Kékkovács, Niki Füredi, Tamás Földes, Ádám Bálint, Attila Németh, Attila Bardóczy, László Sánta and Ottó Magócs, who routinely perform in German, several young performers of the Pest Broadway Studio also have the opportunity to show their skills. Among them are Kitty Jenes, Sándor Barkóczy, Norman Szentmártoni and Balázs Angler, said Lencsó
