Hungarian Writer Wins BBC Prize

English

Székely won the regional prize for Europe in the global competition for radio plays.

Born in 1981, Székely earned a degree in English and Hungarian and has applied for an MA in playwriting at the Targu Mures Theatre Academy. In 2004, he published Írók a ketrecben (Writers in the Cage).

Székely said the only reason he had written the play in English was because the contest required it. He added he did not think the piece would work well in Hungarian, but would be happy to consider a rewrite if there was interest.
