The choir, led by 23-year-old Janis Liepins, also won prizes in the chamber choir and mixed choir categories.

Judit Váradi, the artistic advisor for the contest, said the Youth Choir Kamer had demonstrated ?Youthful passion combined with sensitive musicality?.

The choir was one of four at the competition. The others were the Hymnia Chamber Choir from Denmark, the Saarbrücken Chamber Choir from Germany and the Delaware University Choir from the United States.

The choirs will wind up the contest with a performance of Zoltán Kodály?s Psalmus Hungaricus in Debrecen?s Kölcsey Centre.

Kodály?s widow Sarolta Péczely will attend the concert and present a special prize.
