Nine dance ensembles from Hungary and five from abroad will perform at the festival ? free of charge to the general public ? which is being held for the first time, said the organisers South Gate Folklore Association.

The Bátai Sárköz Folkdance Ensemble, the Lelle Folkdance Group, and the Leőwey, the Mecsek and the Misina dance ensembles will perform on the first day of the festival. On Saturday, a dance troupe from Pécs?s sister cities of Lahti in Finland will perform. On Sunday, Xorokrama from Cyprus, the Belgian Pallieterke and the Russian ensemble Gornitsa will take the stage with Hungary?s Szigetvári Folkdance Circle and the Misina Folkdance Ensemble.

The festival is supported by the local government of Pécs and the National Cultural Fund. It is hoped the festival, which is being organised for the first time, will grow into a larger event, raising the international profile of folk ensembles and the communities they represent.
