Hungary will be the guest of honour at this year's Denkmal, and Pécs will have a special spot at the country's stand at the fair. In addition to examples of fine work from the city's Zsolnay Porcelain Factory, Pécs will show messages from locals about the 2010 European Capital of Culture programme on "futurestones" - cobblestones that will be used to pave a promenade in two years.
Denkmal director Ulrike Lange announced Hungary would be the guest of honour at the festival in March. She said she was curious about Hungary's special offerings in the area of monument protection, and looked forward to seeing a documentation of steps the country has taken to protect its building heritage.
Péter Deme, of Hungary's Cultural Heritage Protection Office (KÖH), said Hungary would get a 300-square-metre stand in Leipzig.
