The village was built as the last component of a European Union-assisted development programme of the popular museum at the Danube Bend north of the capital.
Speaking at the ceremony, the president, whose mandate will expire on August 4, said that the event was one of the last moments in his term, and noted that he had already opened another section to the museum early on during his presidency.
In his address, Solyom spoke highly of the museum and said that it had "represented stable values for the past 40 years" and that it had earned international fame. He said he trusted that the next addition to the facility would be a section depicting the homes of an ethnic Hungarian community in Romania.
Construction of the new village has cost 617 million forints within the two-year development programme of 2.2 billion forints (EUR 7.7m).
The new section consists of 48 houses, equipped with some 5,000 original household objects.
