As in earlier years, the festival will comprise a competition programme and the complimentary, colourful OFF programme.
This year?s four-member selection committee has picked 14 plays for the competition. Six of the plays will come from Budapest, from the Radnóti Miklós Theatre, the National Theatre, the Örkény István Theatre, the Comedic Theatre, and two from the Katona Jozsef Theatre. Another six will come from other cities around Hungary ? Debrecen, Kecskemet, Veszprém, Székesfehérvár, Szombathely and Nyíregyháza ? and the Transylvanian theatres of Cluj Napoca and Targu Mures will also bring pieces.
Compared to earlier years, far more classical plays - albeit shaped for today?s audiences - are on the programme.
The recently inaugurated Zsolnay Cultural Quarter will be the centre for the OFF programme. Among the events is a three-part presentation by the Association of Independent Performance Artists (FESz) on theatre and instruction, production, and improvisation and music.
Pécs?s Kodály Centre will host highlighted events on the programme, such as a concert by legendary band EAST.
Other acts on the OFF programme include the L?art pour l?art Company, which is celebrating its 25th year, Sub Bass Monster and the organist Xavér Varnus.
Puppet performances for children will take place in the mornings and the afternoons on Jókai Square during the festival. Puppet performances for adults can be seen in the evening.
