The folk artists will demonstrate their skills in miniature workshops and some will even invite visitors to participate. In addition to arts and crafts, the fair will also feature performances by folk dancers and musicians. Hungarians on the programme inlcude the Zurgó Ensemble, the Csík Orchestra, Ági Szalóki and Bea Palya. But performers from other countries, among them Cyprus, Venezuela, Canada, Russia, and Columbia, will show their own cultures as well. Every evening there will be a traditional ?dance house? on the Palace Stage
Each year the Festival of Folk Arts attracts 80,000-100,000 visitors. The festival offers an especially rich programme for children: at activity workshops, they can shape pottery, work with leather and even make rag dolls.
This year?s festival will put folk clothing and embroidery in the spotlight. In tandem with the festival, the Hungarian National Gallery will run an exhibition entitled ?From Head to Toe? showing traditional embroidery in clothing, the home and the church. Models will display some of the clothing at a ?fashion show? on the Buda Castle Terrace on August 19.
Tickets for the fair cost HUF 800 for adults and HUF 400 for students and pensioners. The tickets also allow entry into the National Relics exhibition at the National Széchényi Library and the permanent collections of the Budapest Historical Museum and Hungarian National Gallery.
