In spite of rainy weather throughout Hungary, Vörösmarty Square remained dry for the week, drawing big crowds even late in the day, said László Péter Zentai, who heads the Association of Hungarian Book Publishers and Booksellers, which organises the festival. A number of foreign tourists also showed interest in the event, drawn by several publishers who sold foreign-language books at their stands.
In addition to the books, the accompanying events, which included concerts, theatre performances, exhibitions and film screenings, were also popular, said Zentai. Hungarian Radio broadcast live performances and talks during the week, and it will present recordings of writers and poets that participated at the festival throughout the summer.
