Festival director Zoltán Füredi, himself a director and cinematographer, said films in the programme are characterised by sensitivity to cultural differences and tolerance. "In addition to being enlightening, they offer recipes for life and survival," he said.

This year's festival is branching out into neighbouring countries. As part of the festival programme, student films will be shown in Bratislava on March 2, and the Transit House in Cluj, Romania, will show festival films on March 4-8.

The festival will pay a special tribute to Lajos Boglár, a pioneer of cultural and visual anthropology in Hungary who recently died.
