"The hundreds of submissions received for CowParade Budapest is an outstanding event in global terms. If my memory serves me right, not even CowParade Stockholm has had this many enthusiastic applicants," said CowParade Stockholm organiser Harrie Rademaekers.
The CowParade is an international public art exhibition which has been featured in major cities all over the world. For the exhibition, fiberglass sculptures of cows are decorated by local artists and distributed around the city centre. After the exhibit finishes, usually after several months, the cows are auctioned off and the proceeds donated to charity.
Invitations for works for the CowParade were called in December. In addition to aspiring talents, some of the country?s best-known artists also submitted designs, including Tamás Lossonczy, Tamás Hencze, and András Wahorn. Among the professionals? submissions were designs for a vibrating zebra print cow, a two-headed, black and white philosophical cow covered with Taoist symbols, a cow designed as a tribute for this year's Rembrandt anniversary and a golden cow designed to fit into the hands of the Freedom Statue on Budapest?s Heroes? Square.
In addition to the professional and aspiring visual artists, submissions were made by artists practising other disciplines too, such as Katti Zoób, Hungary?s most famous fashion designer.
Earlier CowParade exhibitions have used designs from a diverse number of famous artists such as David Lynch, John Rocha, Matthew Williamson, and Vivienne Westwood.
Which of the designs will be realised will depend on the corporate and individual sponsorship the event?s organisers can muster in the coming weeks.
