AVEC Appoints Pécs Mayor Deputy Chairman

The alliance, which marked its tenth year at the meeting, acknowledged Pécs's participation in the UNESCO World Heritage Site programme as well as its preparations to take the title European Capital of Culture in 2010.

With more than 50 members, AVEC is one of Europe's most important organisations of local governments focusing on nurturing and protecting local heritage. Organising projects and forums as well as preparing studies are among some of AVEC's tasks.

 
AVEC works in close cooperation with ICOMOS, UNESCO and the European Council.
