Balassi Institute |
The government considers the Balassi Institute?s main task to promote the Hungarian achievements abroad, the ministry said. The state secretariat in charge of government communication said that promoting Hungarian developments abroad is a complex task that involves the synthesis of national policy, communication, education and science, culture and cultural diplomacy. As a result, the central coordination of the institute will be transferred to the Ministry of Public Administration and Justice which is in charge of operative tasks related to national policy and government communication.
In line with the law on the legal status of government officials, the appointment of the former chief director of the Balassi Institute Éva Lauter was ended. The ministry said that chancellor of the Moholy-Nagy University of Art Pál Hatos would oversee the management of the Balassi Institute as ministry commissioner until July 31. His tasks will include assessing the organisational and financial condition of the institute and a new chief director will be appointed after the necessary organisational decisions are prepared.
The Ministry of Public Administration and Justice has so far declined to reveal whether staff changes are planned at the Hungarian cultural institutes overseen by the Balassi Institute and if any of the cultural diplomats serving abroad are to be replaced.
?Vacancies resulting from the expiry of contracts will be filled through tenders and further organisational changes will be implemented after an audit of the Balassi Institute?s activities. Staff changes will be carried out depending on the results of the audit,? the ministry said.
