The opening gala will feature Elena Mosuc, Alex Vicens and the Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra, performing Bartok and Janos Vajda, as well as various opera pieces, the event's press chief told MTI on Tuesday.
The festival programme offers 65 opera and ballet performances and concerts from 27 European countries between June 9-20, Eszter Barazda said.
Highlights of the event include Ferenc Erkel's Bank Bank presented by the Csokonai Theatre of Debrecen (E), while the Hungarian State Opera of Cluj-Napoca in Romania will present a modern version of the opera Sarolt.
The Strauss-classic, Daphne, last on the Hungarian State Opera's repertoire in 1941/42, will also be performed, starring internationally-renowned Hungarian soprano Andrea Rost.
A recent opera, Wallenberg, composed by Estonia's Erkki-Sven Tuur, will also be one of the highlights of the festival.
The popular concert of the Three Tenors will be on the programme again and the Flamenco group of Antonio Marquez from Spain will also give a performance.
The Hungarian Red Cross will collect donations at the festival venues to aid to victims of the recent floods in north-eastern Hungary.
