Tarr was awarded a lifetime achievement award at the International Festival of New Film in 2006. The same year, the festival showed a retrospective of his works.

The director?s latest film, ?The Turin Horse?, was awarded the top prize at this year?s Berlinale.

There are 40 short and 10 feature films in the competition at this year?s festival. Among them are ones from Poland, France, Austria, Germany, Britain, Belgium, Japan and South Korea, the festival website www.splitfestival.hr said.
