Stefan Englert will replace Tamás Körner, who is retiring at the end of the year.
The chairman of the BFO advisory board Miklós Marschall and musical director Iván Fischer expressed their appreciation of Körner?s 20 years of work for the BFO.
The board also appointed Orsolya Erdődy deputy managing director.
Körner said he was proud of his two decades with the BFO and the success of the orchestra during the period. He called the selection of Englert and Erdődy an ?outstanding decision? and said the BFO ?stands before a new era of success?.
Stefan Englert grew up in Northern Bavaria, Germany, and studied philosophy at Hamburg University. In 1999, he joined the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, becoming the head of the prestigious Orchestral Academy three years later. During that time he gained substantial experience in general management, orchestral planning and international touring. In 2009 he was appointed managing director of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra.
Orsolya Erdődy studied German language and literature, political science and cultural management in Budapest, Saarbrücken and Rome.
